147 pp. Scarce. "Produced at the Pasadena Playbox Theatre under the direction of Gilmor Brown. Iain MacDuall and his wife Moira came to this country in 1862 and settled on a frontier farm. Now, seven years later, Moira is giving birth to a child which Iain hopes will be a boy who can help him develop the land and found a claim. The boy is born - blind! However, Gillean, the son, grows up into a rare fine personality, and his sixteen-year-old orphaned cousin, Jennith, comes to live with the MacDualls. Gillean has a romantic interest in her, but she is drawn to handsome Hugh Dunbar. During the All Hallow's Eve festivities, Jennith's dress catches fire and Gillean is badly injured saving her. She, in her distress, vows to be his eyes and his helping hand from then on. Gillean studies for the ministry and returns home finally to ask Jennith to marry him, but she and Hugh have promised each other and Gillean never gets a chance to ask the question. On Jennith's wedding day Gillean leaves to take up his duties in a new parish accompanied by his constant friend, Robin. A touching and poignant epilogue brings the play to a highly dramatic climax. Without a doubt one of the most beautifully conceived and written plays of recent years."
