7 1/2 x 10 sheet matted to 6 1/4 x 9 1/2 (mat measures 9 x 11 3/4). Color print of Harlech Castle from a northwest perspective. An artistic rendering that also provides a good level of architectural detail. The print depicts the complete northwest facade, showing its position on a promontory. Suggested in the background is Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. This range of mountains protects the castle to the south and east. With the Irish sea to the west, this makes the castle's position quite defensible. Constructed during the King Edward I's conquest of Wales, Harlech Castle is notable for its monumentally large gatehouse (not visible in this print).
