Hanna was famous for designing the Tahiti ketch. He also designed a research vessel for inventory Donald Roebling which took part in a Smithsonian-connected scientific expedition led by Paul Bartsch in 1937. Another of his designs was taken into U.S. naval service as the U.S.S. Araner.
