[106 pp.] A wide variety of original photographs, ephemera, newspaper clippings, typed sheets, holiday cards, collected in a scrapbook by a nurse named Marian Macaulay. According to her obituary, "She was a staff nurse and then head nurse of the Research Ward at Massachusetts General Hospital." Both an important historical document for its inclusion of internal hospital memos and announcements for dedication ceremonies, etc, as well as a very personal history of Macaulay's career, showing images of a nurse (who we assume is Macaulay) posed with children who must have been patients at the time (several are of one boy clearly suffering from progeria). It's clear that Marian was not a professional at scrapbooking, as some of the items have come unglued and are laid in, while others were glued so extensively that the paper has discolored from it. However, it's also clear from Marian's selections of what to include here that she cared deeply about the trajectory of her career, and about the work she was doing at MGH. She went on to be the first Director of Nursing of the Oklahoma Research Institute and Hospital, and completed her career at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. She passed away in Brighton, New York, a suburb of Rochester, which is where this scrapbook was acquired.
