Annie Besant was the president of the Theosophical Society, whose members had as their goal the attainment of knowledge of God. She traveled extensively studying different religious traditions. This short speech is an attempt to reconcile the spiritual life and domestic life, arguing that one need not resort to asceticism to properly practice a spiritual discipline.
