xi, 92 pp. Original grey cloth, gilt titles on spine, black stamped facsimile of the front page of the July 23, 1905 San Francisco Bulletin on front board. A reissue of the 1905 autobiographical account of Virginia City, a settlement owing its origins to the discovery of the Comstock Lode. The work originally appeared serially in the San Francisco Bulletin, with cartoon illustrations by Herb Roth, who began working at the Bulletin when he was just eighteen years old. This tribute -- printed as number 16 in a series of keepsakes issued by the Friends of the Bancroft Library for its members -- includes supplementary historical information following each story, a brief biography of Waldorf, a bibliography of further reading, and notes on the editor's commentary.
