24 pp. 12mo bound in sixes. Sewn binding. A medical guide designed for use by families, offering herbal remedies for such common ailments as colic, stiff joints, hooping cough, consumption, dropsy, etc. Hoolihan 3797.1: "This 1827 New York edition of the Last legacy was published separately, and in 1828 was appended to The New-England Farrier, and family physician pubilshed by Josiah Richardson at New Haven." (not included here) Hoolihan, in reference to the original 1811 edition, states, "Williams' botanic formulary includes recipes for the treatment of eighty-seven common disorders (later editions reduce their number to eighty-five). The Last legacy appeared in at least eighteen recorded editions between 1811 and 1842. The pamphlet's enduring popularity may be attributed to its brevity, the author's selection of the most common diseases and accidents, the clarity of his recipes, and the availability of the botanicals required."
