Malt Marrow Cook Book: Recipes of Quality [Cookbook]

16mo. Cloth spine, color pictorial paper over boards. A collection of recipes utilizing McAvoy Brewing Company's 'Malt Marrow' and 'Alma Mater'. Malt marrow was an alcohol-based children's medicine marketed by McAvoy both before and during the prohibition era. Using these sorts of clever ploys, the brewery was able to get away with such things as this book's cover, which shows a boy probably six years of age pouring a foamy glass of beer from a gargantuan bottle, while his dog dutifully holds his equally oversized pipe. The front cover also touts malt marrow as 'the tonic of the age'. A telephone number for Calumet is also listed - this is probably Calumet City, Illinois (McAvoy was based in Chicago).
