One of Jackson's Foot Cavalry (Collector's Library of the Civil War)

Although written many years after the war ended, Worsham's story is beautifully written and imparts some of the immediacy, triumph and terror of fighting a war that was ultimately lost. Wounded at Winchester, Virginia in Sept. 1864, Worsham spends the remaining months of the war as an invalid. He witnesses the fall of Richmond and, years later, he fills in the combat details of his unit during the months he was absent.
