92 pp. 4to. Maroon boards. An account of the use of the words Red Cross in history, together with historical examples and images from various sources. The limitation statement explains the reason for this volume's publication: 'The Seventy-eighth Congress of the United States has before it for deliberation S. 469... proposing to prohibit the commercial use of certain crosses of specified color and design. The purpose of this brief is to furnish exclusively to members of Congress a convenient reference to facts on the historical uses of these crosses. The first edition was limited to fifty copies. This is copy number ___ of the reprint edition.' Johnson & Johnson used extensively, and still uses, red crosses extensively on packaging for first aid products. The legality of this was a topic of some debate for many years in the first half of the twentieth century, and was discussed during the Geneva Conventions. A rather uncommon volume - OCLC lists only 11 copies held by institutions. No auction records found.
