Being of a gossipy nature, fond of society, not afraid of slander, and with a versatile background, she has recorded here her observations of almost 90 years of Nashville's history. Her descriptive powers, her demonstrably fine memory of both people and event and especially her insight into the character of Nashville become quickly evident to the reader. These reminiscences consequently have preserved a vast and entertaining fund of the early history of Nashville. Most of the content of this volume was written by Miss Thomas without any idea of its being published in book form. But after her column had run in the local newspaper for some time, her friends suggested to her the idea of publishing this volume. So far as can be determined, only a small number of copies were originally published. For several years the volume has been rare and thus unobtainable to the many people who are eager to learn more about the early cultural life of this locale."
