1136 pp. 8vo. A modern one-volume reissue of the autobiography originally released as part of a series of memoirs of Civil War generals released by Charles L. Webster during the late 19th century. This edition is taken from the 1886 revised edition (which added content such as letters in reaction to the 1875 original, as well as numerous maps), and also includes a chronology and notes on the text by editor Charles Royster. William Tecumseh Sherman was famous for his scorched earth campaign through the South, now known as Sherman's March to the Sea. This edition is part of the Library of America series, published by a non-profit organization whose goal is to keep classic works of American literature and history in print as a way of preserving cultural heritage.
