[3], 4-28, 30-41 pp. Sewn binding, plain buff wrappers. A collection of accounts of faith healing by the sister of Washington, D.C. mayor Thomas Carbery, who was miraculously cured of cancer. Hoolihan 723: "In 1817, Ann Mattingly began to manifest symptoms of breast cancer. She underwent medical treatment ('external applications of hemlock and mercurial ointment') to no avail. Her illness and pain only increased over the years. Anticipating her end, Mrs. Mattingly prepared herself spiritually, made her confession, and on the morning of 10 March 1824 received communion. She was instantaneously cured of her malady after receiving the sacrament. This collection of documents testifying to the miraculous healing of Ann Mattingly (1782-1855) was compiled by William Mathews (1770-1854), rector of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. It includes the testimony of John Marshall (1755-1835), Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1801 to 1835."
