Samuel Clarke's arguments against Henry Dodwell's Epistolary Discourse, and subsequent writings related to the same topic, the main issue at hand being the immateriality and immortality of the human soul. Samuel Clarke was among those who delivered Boyle's Lectures. He was a friend of Isaac Newton, and translated Newton's Opticks, while defending him from the criticisms of Leibniz.
