viii, 424; xviii,507 pp. 8vo. Original full calf, gilt titles & rules. A treatise on pathological anatomy by the French physician who also wrote the first monography on haematology. Heirs of Hippocrates 1582: "Andral asked an Irish physician, Richard Townsend (fl. 1795), to translate the present work soon after its publication and the project was begun immediately. However, before the translation could be completed, Townsend "was obliged to go to the continent" (p. [v]) and he asked a colleague, William West (d. 1837), to complete the task. West did so and published both volumes at Dublin, the first in 1829 and the second in 1831. This first American edition followed soon after publication of the second volume."
