Thomas Reid was the founder of the Scottish School of Common Sense, an important figure in the Scottish Enlightenment, and a co-founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He was also a critic of the work of David Hume, George Berkeley, John Locke, and Rene Descartes.
