392 pp. This volume is a compilation extracted and reassembled from the monumental seven-volume History of California by the able and eminent historian, Hubert Howe Bancroft. It includes all genealogical information contained in these volumes and as such should be of great interest to genealogists and to descendants of California pioneers who are interested in tracing their ancestry. The List of Inhabitants of California, 1769-1800, and the List of Pioneers were taken from volume one, the Pioneer Register and Index reassembled from volumes 2 to 5. As this is an offset reprint, made by taking photographic plates of the original, the ending of one part could not be directly connected with the beginning of another. This accounts for the gaps on pages 135, 195 and 294. Nevertheless, rearrangement of most of the content was possible and so we are able to present all of the genealogical data from the set in a comprehensive and readily accessible form.
