Feuerbach's work influenced Charles Darwin, Karl Marx, Frederick Engels, Sigmund Freud, Richard Wagner, and Friedrich Nietzsche. He was an advocate of atheism, and his work helped develop the school of historical materialism. This work would later be translated into English by Mary Ann Evans, better known by her pen name George Eliot, under which she wrote Adam Bede, The Mill on the Floss, Middlemarch, etc.
