Published in conjunction with the operations of the retail store, publishing, and dress pattern business of William Jennings Demorest, this periodical ran for nearly forty years, and included numerous fashion plates. The magazine also advocated for women's education and employment, and included contributions from such authors as Louisa May Alcott and Julia Ward Howe. This volume includes chapters from Three Vassar Girls by Lizzie W. Champney, an engraving of the Grand Canyon, writings on high society in New York City by Jenny June, a poem by Margaret Sangster, portions of Mary Webster, the Witch by Constance du Bois, and pieces on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
