xi, 408 pp. 8vo. Crimson full leather, gilt titles & triple rule, all edges gilt, decorative endpapers. Includes 93 illustrations & decorations by John Austen. A poetical satire of the legend of Don Juan, in which Lord Byron inverts Don Juan's romantic inclinations - instead of seducing women, he finds himself seduced by them. The first two cantos were originally published anonymously in 1819; Byron completed fourteen more, and a portion of a 17th canto which remained unfinished upon his death. Despite what some considered immoral content, it was incredibly popular, and considered by many critics today to be Byron's best work.
