Introduction by Anthony Boucher, two-color plates and black-and-white illustrations in text by Felix Hoffmann. The famous epistolary vampire novel, a genre begun by Polidori's classic The Vampyre, which was based on the life of Lord Byron. While Stoker's novel was not the first of the genre, it has become the most influential, and has shaped the public perception of vampire mythology. It is also one of the most successful examples of the epistolary novel (i.e., a story told through a series of letters or other documents), and has inspired many film adaptations. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Abraham 'Bram' Stoker (8 November 1847 - 20 April 1912) was an Irish novelist and short story writer, best known today for his 1897 Gothic novel Dracula. During his lifetime, he was better known as the personal assistant of actor Henry Irving and business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London, which Irving owned.
