364 pp. Joseph Charles Philpot ( Ripple , September 13, 1802 - December 9, 1869 ) was an English preacher. Philpot was born in Ripple in the English county of Kent , just north of Dover. He studied in London and in Oxford and was, at the age of 26, confirmed in Stadhampton as pastor of the Church of England. After a long struggle, Philpot evaded the state church in 1835. He writes about it in one of his sermons: I leave the Church of England because I can scarcely detect a mark of the true church in her. He joined the Baptist churches, which would later be called the Gospel Standard Strict Baptists. Philpot was one of the first editors of the Gospel Standard church. In 1838 Philpot became preacher of the Strict Baptist municipalities of Stamford and Oakham. He spent his last years in the London suburb of Croydon. He died at the end of 1869. Joseph Charles Philpot is buried at the General Cemetery on the Queens Road in Croydon.
