100 pp. "This little work is purported to be the authentic diary of Esther Edwards, the mother of Aaron Burr. No explanation was contained in the volume itself as to its authenticity. Dr. Rankin, formerly President of Howard University, had the original diary of Esther Burr in his possession, but was not allowed by the owners of the manuscript to use it. This Manuscript Diary is now in the possession of the Yale University Library. The above entitled work is entirely fictitious, with the exception of a few pages. Dr. Rankin stated in a letter to Mr. Lansing V. Collins, librarian of Princeton University, that of the 100 pages of the book all but 10 were composed by himself after a 'somewhat faithful study of the subject.'" (Wandell, p. 214).
