iii, 243 pp. Gayle Warren and Susan and Linda Swift, lived with their families on farms located about fifteen miles away from River City where they all attended school. They had always commuted daily to school by bus, but due to the war, the buses had been discontinued. Their parents had given them permission to live in town during the school term, but they had a good deal of trouble in finding suitable living quarters. This was due to the fact that there were several war industries operating in River City. They were finally able to obtain an apartment over the garage on the estate of Mrs. Mallory, an old dowager who had lived along on her large estate for a good many years. In order to get this apartment, they had to take in Rosemary Travis, who was a friend of Mrs. Mallory's butler, and a refugee from England. Rosemary had a short wave radio, and spent a good deal of her spare time listening to foreign broadcasts. It was through her that they were able to catch some saboteurs who were planning to blow up an ammunition train, and solve other mysterious explosions that had occured in River City recently.
