"In April of 1755 William Johnson was appointed as the sole superintendendt of the Indian Affairs of northern colonies by General Edward Braddock at Alexandria, VA. ...Most of the tribes however, would line up with the French in the coming war. Johnson's tak was of utmost importance and he accomplished it be convening a great conference with the natives on the grounds of Fort Johnson in June and July of 1755. This conference saw over one thousand one hundred Indians in attendance. This conference proved to be a success for Johnson when nearly three hundred Indians took part in his campaign at Lake George and in subsequent engagements with the French and Indians led by the General Diskau in September 1755."
