ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dumas Malone (January 10, 1892 - December 27, 1986) was an American author, born at Coldwater, Mississippi, USA. Between 1917 and 1919 during the First World War he became a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He became best known for his multi-volume biography of Thomas Jefferson for which he earned the 1975 Pulitzer Prize. In 1983 President Ronald Reagan awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
