100 pp. B Company, 31st Iowa Volunteer Infantry. John Rath was a young immigrant from Germany who settled in Cedar Falls. He and his older brother enlisted in the Cedar Falls Reserves in August of 1862. The Reserves served as B Company 31st Iowa Volunteer Infantry and were active in every campaign of William Sherman's Army from Vicksburg to Columbia.
