ix, 734 pp. A guide to North American Wood Warblers and their habits, by the American ornithologist commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution to publish what was at the time the most comprehensive repository of knowledge about the biology of the birds of North America. It was released from 1919-1968 (the final two volumes were completed and released after his death). He won the John Burroughs Medal in 1940, as well as the Daniel Giraud Elliot Medal from the National Academy of Sciences in 1949.
