George Skivington purchased the book about fifty years ago from a Finger Lakes area book dealer, and he added it to his collection of local history artifacts. In February of 2006 I embarked on a quest to learn more about Mary Thorn and to share her story. By carefully reading the diary I discovered a sincere, intelligent and lively young lady. By studying local historical resources I was able to fill in many details about Mary Thorn, her family and friends, and their way of life. The thorns arrived in the Wheatland\/Chili NY area from Saratoga.
