534 pp. Volume I only. Top page ridge gilt. A collection of records of military personnel from New York that fought in the Revolutionary War, discovered, arranged, and classified by state comptroller James A. Roberts. Includes an introduction by Roberts about the archives referenced and some general history, and an account of the raid of Sir John Johnson on the Schoharie and Mohawk Valleys in October 1780 by Jacobus Swartwout, with a fold-out map of that area. Facsimiles of original documents included throughout. Roberts explains that no soldier below the rank of ensign is listed in this volume, and that missing and defective rosters, as well as those which originally provided only partial information, render the list somewhat incomplete. Index to illustrations, organizations and counties, and commanding officers, follows text.
