Leather spine and corners over pebbled cloth boards, gilt titles. Though it began as a cycling magazine called The Wheelman in 1882, its scope expanded to be quite broad, and it changed its name first to Outing and the Wheelman, then simply Outing. It encompasses hunting, fishing, mountaineering, hiking, golf, yachting, etc., etc. There are engraved plates and cuts throughout by various artists. It is also notable for publishing White Fang in serial form, and for printing illustrations by Frederic Remington. These were generally bound up into biannual volumes comprising six monthly issues, but here have been bound in volumes comprising full years.
