R.E. Lee: A Biography, in Four Volumes [Robert Edward Lee]

Complete in four hardcover volumes. xviii, [2], 647; xi, [3], 621; xi, [3], 559; viii, [2], 594 pp. 8vo. A scholarly biography of the general in command of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. It won the 1935 Pulitzer Prize in Biography, and Freeman went on to write a follow-up work about Lee's lieutenants, which cemented his standing as an eminent military historian. Freeman later won another Pulitzer for his biography of George Washington.
