342 pp. 8vo. Jacketed illustrated by Paul Galdone, showing two nicely dressed ladies and a young girl, with a frontier town pictured in the background. This represents some of his earliest work, preceding 'Anatole' by two years, and only two years after his first credit as illustrator for Ruthven Todd's 'Space Cat'. He went on to become a very successful children's author and illustrator, winning Caldecott Medals for 'Anatole' and 'Anatole and the Cat'. Respectable Women focuses on the experiences of women in the transition from the Wild West to the establishment of civilized communities in late 19th century America. It is the author's second novel, following I Seek a City, which was published in 1950. Uncommon.
