Author's first novel. "Robert A. Heinlein's first juvenile novel for Scribner's, first published in 1947, follows the adventures of a rocket scientist and 3 young men embarking on an expedition to the Moon. The book was scientifically accurate for the time and the basis for the Academy Award-winning American film Destination Moon." In Heinlein's foreword to Expanded Universe he explains that the novel was originally rejected by publishers because the concept of man traveling to the moon was "too far out."
