51 pp. 8vo. Translated from the French by Lord Alfred Douglas, with a new introduction by Holbrook Jackson. Decorated and hand-illuminated by Valenti Angelo. Originally published in 1891 in French, and first translated into English in 1894. Oscar Wilde tells the tragic Biblical story of Salome in one act. An abridged version of the text was used for Richard Strauss's early 20th century opera. Despite initial ridicule by critics, it eventually became accepted as a crowning work of the Aesthetic movement.
