Originally released as a companion volume to Studer's Popular Ornithology in 1878. Includes a systematic table of the birds of North America prepared by Frank M. Chapman, and 119 full-page chromolithographic plates from paintings by Theodore Jasper. Many illustrations depict aspects of behavior, unlike some ornithological references which feature primarily posed images.
