439 pp. Arctic and African travelogue. An unusual book about an unusual man, Talbot Clifton, who inherited a fortune at the end of the nineteenth century and spent his time travelling the world on wild adventures from the arctic to the tropics. He loved finding new species then shooting them and eating them. He even dined on defrosted mammoth. His widow Violet wrote the book as a kind of eulogy to her hero. Amazingly it got her nominated for the Nobel prize for literature.
