Five volumes of a seven volume set. Flexible black leatherette bindings. Clare A. Briggs was a pioneer in American comic strips, contributing newspaper sketches and editorial cartoons to the Globe-Democrat in St. Louis, the New York Journal, the Chicago Herald and Chicago's American, and the New York Triibune. It was in Chicago that he created A. Piker Clerk, often considered the first daily continuity comic strip. Briggs was also a lecturer on the vaudeville circuit in the 1910s, and produced comedic films for Paramount. The Mr. and Mrs. radio series was also based on his comics.
