xi, [1], 282 pp. 8vo. A study of the relationship between Princess Dashkov and the rule of Catherine II, drawing information from the original manuscript of Dashkov's memoirs (which had recently become available for scholarly study). Also includes an appendix of unpublished fragments of conversations between the two. Dashkov was, according to a footnote, "in the habit of writing down her conversations with the Empress at odd moments. She allowed her friend, Martha Wilmot, to transcribe the MS." The author gained access to these transcriptions through Wilmot's grandniece.
