This book is complete with a tower location map and chart that list all the towers and important information on each. It is a three part book, first describing the early history of New York State, and how and why the fire tower program began and in later years, why is was abandoned. The second Part is a short story written by Helen Ellett, who was one of the first woman observers to be appointed as a result of the labor shortages during WWII. Helen describes all her adventure's and her job as a woman observer. The last section covers all the standing towers, facts, history, lore, and trail descriptions and directions to each are provided. Following that section is a listing of tower groups and how to contact each.
