The author, Arthur Christopher Benson, was notable for his ghost stories, and for contributing lyrics to Edward Elgar's Coronation Ode. Here Benson ruminates on his own mortality through the lens of his Christian beliefs during a prolonged illness (June 16 - October 14). He lived nearly another twenty years after the book's publication.
