"This catalogue is both the illustrated guide to an exhibition and a complete record of the collection of illuminated manuscripts formed by the late William S. Glazier. (Not included are five Eastern manuscripts of relatively minor importance.) In the spring of 1959, the Morgan Library exhibited the Glazier Manuscripts Collection as it was then constituted, and issued an illustrated descriptive catalogue. As Mr. Glazier was still adding to his collection, the 1959 catalogue could be no more than an interim report of progress. The death of Mr. Glazier on December 20, 1962, at the age of 55, brought his activities to a sudden and early end. Even so, he had succeeded in assembling the finest private collection in America of illuminated manuscripts. He combined a natural appreciation of the beautiful and a flair for the unusual with scholarly diligence and skill to a degree rarely found in such an active man of affairs."
