{"product_id":"the-iliad-of-homer-with-the-odyssey-of-homer-1","title":"The Iliad of Homer [with] The Odyssey of Homer","description":"Two matching hardcover volumes. xxviii, 478; xvi, 357 pp. Original cloth hardcover bindings with beveled edges, Iliad in red, Odyssey in blue, each with gilt designs and titles. Translated by Alexander Pope, with frontispiece to each volume by John Flaxman. Flaxman's designs were originally commissioned in the late 18th century by Mrs Hare Naylor -- he also received separate commissions for designs to accompany Dante's Divine Comedy and the works of Aeschylus. These were engraved by Piroli, and are reproduced here. Pope's translations of these two works, both completed in the early part of the 18th century, were considered by most of his contemporaries to be authoritative, even masterful, though this is not an opinion that has remained universal among scholars and critics. He was a popular satirical poet in his own right, and also produced an edition of Shakespeare's works which was somewhat controversial for its omissions and revisions.","brand":"The Heritage Press","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":40266501423174,"sku":"2327467","price":75.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1232\/9510\/products\/2327467.jpg?v=1661818388","url":"https:\/\/ym-demo.myshopify.com\/products\/the-iliad-of-homer-with-the-odyssey-of-homer-1","provider":"Yesterday's Muse","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
