xxiv, 663; xxi, 692 pp. 8vo. Maroon cloth, gilt titles. Engraved frontispiece and plates. A biography of the co-founder of the Salvation Army (with her husband William Booth), by her son-in-law who was also senior officer in the organization. Originally founded as The Christian Mission in 1865, the organization changed its name in 1878. Catherine Booth was very active in operations, and contributed many of the ideas that guided its activities until her death in 1890. Her work in ministry beforehand also paved the way for women to preach the gospel more freely than had been the case in the past.
