399 pp. Red cloth, gilt titles. Black-and-white frontispiece and plates (4 total) by Stuart Travis. This, Klein's best-regarded drama, was prompted by a visit to the U.S. Senate, and concerns a young woman taking on a powerful business tycoon. One of the corporate figures in the play was made to look like one of John D. Rockefeller's partners, H.H. Rogers. Klein also wrote the libretto for John Philip Sousa's operetta El Capitan, and was among those who died due to the sinking of the Lusitania. This is a novelization of the play by Arthur Hornblow, Jr., a film producer nominated for four Academy Awards, who worked with Billy Wilder, Bob Hope, and many others. His credits include The Cat and the Canary (1939), The Ghost Breakers (1940) and Nothing But the Truth (1941). He also worked on the musical Oklahoma.
