Churchill's second book, written while an officer in the British army, and definitely the scarcest of his works. Later editions were abridged to one volume, and removed several passages that were deemed too critical of Lord Kitchener. The book tells of the conflict between Kitchener and the Dervish forces of Khalifa Abdallahi ibn Muhammad.
