xvi, 784 pp. 12" x 10". Full leather with gilt title decor on boards and spine. Both boards depict the same gilt decorations of two men and two images, one of a battle with three men mounted on horseback, one of which is blowing a horn; the second image showing a naval battle with people escaping in boats. Edges encased in gilt metal with working metal clasps. Clasps measure 1 1/2" x 2 1/2". Page ridges gilt. Illustrated by numerous steel engravings, including frontispiece portrait of Queen Victoria.
