This first authorized English translation of the official Soviet account presents the only full scale study of the role played by Soviet aviation in that bitter conflict, a detailed balance to post-war German accounts which offers the other side's view of the war's costly and hard fought theater of operations. In addition to the details of all major Soviet air campaigns from 1941 to 1945 the book also provides little-known information on some uniquely Soviet aspects of the air war, such as mid-air ramming and women combat pilots.
