Best known for his American Civil War novel The Red Badge of Courage (1895), Stephen Crane was a major figure in the fields of Realism, Naturalism, and Impressionism, most notably his first novel Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, which many consider the first American Naturalist novel. This set includes introductions by various authors written expressly for this edition, some quite prominent (e.g., Willa Cather; H.L. Mencken, Sherwood Anderson).
