The most popular poem written by Joyce Kilmer, who was killed in World War I by a sniper at the Second Battle of the Marne in 1918. Originally published as part of Trees and Other Poems in 1914, this is the first separate book publication, and the first illustrated edition of the work. Color and black-and-white illustrations by E. MacKinstry are paired with lines of the poem, and the full poem appears at the end.
